Giant redwoods are absolutely the largest living thing on earth! Who wouldn't want to own a real estate property in the middle of a giant redwood forest? These largest of living things are from an ancient line of trees, a near cousin to the redwood trees that we know and love, that were living on earth when dinosaurs still roamed the planet. California's Scenic Klamath River
The scenic Klamath River is the second largest river in California and originates in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Klamath is derived from the word "klamet", the Native American word for "swiftness". The Klamath river is not only one of the West's' biggest rivers, and is the second longest river in California. It runs about 300 miles in length through the Klamath and Siskiyou Mountains out to the sea, and along the way it merges with the Trinity river system at Weitchpec. The Klamath River offers over 184 miles of incredible whitewater rafting to enjoy with family and friends. Fun splashy rapids, spectacular mountain scenery, beautiful side hikes, relatively warm water, and a staggering diversity of wildlife make the Klamath River one of the best places to explore the outdoors in the West.
The Town of Klamath and the Klamath River
The Lower Klamath cuts through the land of legendary Bigfoot and is home to black bear, elk, sea otter, and bald eagle. As the Klamath River flows West, the canyon becomes increasingly lush with numerous side streams and rivers that add to its rapid waters. Before the Klamath river opens up to the ocean it passes through the town of Klamath making it a strong focal point of the surrounding area. Primarily a recreational river, the Klamath has Salmon, Steelhead, Trout and Sturgeon when in season. The river is runnable by jet boat as far as Ishi Pishi falls, but most jet boat tours stop before this point, usually going further than Coon Creek Falls.
Klamath River Native American Tribes
The Yurok people, members of California's most populous Indian nation settled at the mouth of the Klamath River along the Pacific coast. Still to this day, the river serves as an anchor for the local tribes of Yurok, Karuk and Hoopa peoples. To this day the Klamath River provides a sustainable source of nourishment to the native peoples of the area through fishing and in the past it served as a time-saving mode of transportation through otherwise difficult mountainous terrain found throughout Northern California.
